We Have a Two Year Old!

Brooke turned two on Sunday, the 22nd.  Today is only the 24th, well, it's after midnight, so I guess it's the 25th, but I'm already blogging about it!?!?  Amazing!  She had her annual checkup at the doctor yesterday, so we'll start off with that, but the rest of this post will be about her actual birthday.

Brooke was happy to see the fish tank in the waiting room at the doctor's office, but as soon as we headed into the exam room, she was no longer happy.  She was pretty grumpy and non-cooperative, but we made it through the exam.  When she was done, she got a sucker, and was happy again!  Here are her stats:
  • Height: 36 inches, 95th percentile.  Although today we went to Lagoon, and she only measured 35 inches, so she couldn't go on some of the rides that required 36 inches or taller.  We'll have to measure her here at home and see whose measurement is more accurate.
  • Weight: 30.2 lbs, 87th percentile.
  • Head circumference: 19.8 inches: 98th percentile.
The morning of her birthday, we went to church.  Before church, Sean and I gave her a present.  It was a purse/bag thing (actually an insulated lunch bag, but it is pink and has a cute little dancer on it, so I thought she'd like it).  She's always taking my mom's purse and pulling everything out of it, so we decided she needed one of her own.  She really seemed to like it, along with the flash cards we put in it, and she was happy to take her new gifts to church.  The nursery leader said all the kids (there were only three) had fun playing with the flash cards.

After church, we gave her a Mickey Mouse balloon, which really excited her.  She loves Mickey and Minnie.  It was so fun to see her running around with the balloon.  Then she had to play with her purse for a little while longer, and then it was finally time for a nap.  I love it when she sleeps with her hands up behind her head.  She does that often, sometimes even in her car seat.

After her nap, the Haws family came over for the usual Sunday dinner gathering, so we were all able to celebrate Brooke's birthday.  Kara Shropshire has been here for the past few weeks, so she was also here to celebrate.  Kara is my sister's (Jane) oldest daughter.  We let Brooke join us right at the table instead of sitting near us in her high chair.  She seemed happy to be sitting at the table like a big girl.

Then it was time for cake and ice-cream and presents.  I really thought I'd make a Minnie Mouse cake for her, but the later it got on Saturday, the easier it was for Sean to talk me into buying a cake.  So we picked one up at Sam's Club.  I figured I would just make a Minnie face out of frosting on Sunday, but just as I was about to start that, I saw her Minnie Mouse cup and thought it would look cute to just put the head on top of the cake.  So that was easy!  Too bad the cake didn't taste that great.  It was ok, but not great.  The kids liked it, though, and Brooke loved hearing everyone sing Happy Birthday.  She was actually singing it herself throughout the day.

Thanks for the quiet book, Mormor!
New shoes
Thanks for the clay, Kara!

Thanks for sending the cute outfits and Minnie phone, Grandma and Grandpa!
We finished off the evening by giving her a Barbie Jeep.  She loves to ride the boys' 4-wheelers, so we decided she needed some wheels of her own.  We went outside and Brooke was leading Mormor over to the Brown's yard to play.  I picked her up and she was mad that I was bringing her back to our yard.  She was kicking and screaming until she saw Sean on the other side of the yard with the Jeep.  Then I set her down and she started laughing and just RAN over to that Jeep!  She loves it!  It was so cute to see her in it.  At first, she didn't want anyone in it with her, so the kids all helped her drive it as best they could, but then we finally convinced her to let the boys ride with her and even drive her around.  She was in heaven!  I don't know who was more excited about the Jeep, though.  Brooke, the boys, or me.  It was so fun to see her reaction!  She's not the greatest driver yet, but I bet it won't take her long.  Happy birthday, Brookie Lou!  We love you so much!
