Gabe Turns Four!

Gabe's last night as a three year old, sleeping in his favorite position... UNDER his pillow.
On October 29th, we celebrated Gabe's fourth birthday.  He was hoping for a celebration at Chuck-E-Cheese's, but I told him we wouldn't do that unless he was totally potty trained.  He's getting better, but still needs to be reminded most of the time to go to the toilet.  I know, he's four.  Some of you had kids potty trained at two.  Gabe is stubborn, and I do not enjoy fighting with him about it, so I haven't pushed it.  But we're getting to the point where I am realizing I don't want three kids in diapers, so something has to be done!  He's starting to remember to go on his own, but if I let him go too long, I usually hear, "I'm sorry Mom." I look at him and can tell from the look on his face he's had an accident.  He just gets so focused on playing or watching a show (one time it was during dinner), and he doesn't remember to go to the bathroom.  Oh Gabe.  Anyway, he's doing pretty well now, but still needs some reminders.  But back to the birthday...

Soren had school that day, so Gabe enjoyed being able to choose the shows to watch that morning.  Then in the afternoon the boys rode their 4-wheelers around the house and just had fun playing outside.  We made a trip to the storage unit where they enjoyed riding their scooters, but then they noticed Brooke was watching Curious George on Sean's phone in the minivan, so they crowded around her to watch that.  We were going to take him to McDonald's for dinner, but he didn't seem too interested, which was fine with me.  I asked him what he wanted for dinner, but all he wanted was cereal.  The rest of us were not going to dine on cereal, so we got Chinese take out, and Gabe was happy with that.  I finally got his cake decorated after dinner, and while I was doing that, he opened his presents.  He had asked for a Batman cake.  While I was decorating it with yellow and brown frosting, Sean asked if I knew Batman was black.  I said I knew that, but I didn't want black frosting on the cake.  We should have put a Batman figurine on it and called it good, but nooooo, I tried to make a Batman logo out of frosting.  HA!  Nice try.  It was pretty lame.  I asked Gabe if it looked like Batman and he said, "No."  Sorry, Buddy.  It wasn't the best looking cake, but it tasted good!  Even Soren ate his whole piece.  Usually he just licks off the frosting.  Brooke liked it, too.  But Gabe was happy to play with his new toys, especially the Batman flying toy he got.  Not sure why the interest in Batman.  We've never watched it with him, but oh well.  He was happy.  Not the most eventful birthday, but for a four year old, it was a good one.  We're so glad to have this little guy in our family!

It might not look like a Batman cake, but it tastes good!
