Goodbye Truck, Helloooooo Minivan!

Saturday the 19th of May was a bittersweet day for our family.  We said goodbye to our GMC 4WD Sierra pickup and said hello to our new Honda Odyssey minivan.  We have enjoyed the truck, and put it to good use, but with a third child on the way, the minivan seemed like the more practical choice.  Fortunately, it's a nice vehicle with lots of room and the ride is smooth.  We feel we got a good deal on it, and being a Honda, it should last for quite a while.  Sean feels as though he lost some of his manhood by giving up the truck and driving a minivan, but I keep assuring him he's more manly than ever behind the wheel of this rig!  I understand it's tough to part with a vehicle that you really enjoy, however.  When we were married, I was driving a beautiful Volvo SUV, but when the lease was up, it would have been pretty expensive to hang onto it with all of our other bills, so I had to let it go.  We realize we need to make better financial decisions so we can enjoy having the vehicles we want in the future, but for now, we feel lucky to have what we do, and we know this will suit our family for several years.  I think the color is called Smokey Topaz.  In the light, it's kind of a brownish color, but in the shade it looks kind of grey.  It's a new color they recently introduced for the vans, so we liked it because there aren't a lot of other ones out there for now.  We'll give it the first road trip test this Saturday when we drive up to St. George for cousin Kelby's birthday party.  I think we'll like it!  Sean and I spent several hours at the dealership while the boys were home with a babysitter, but we had to return to take the truck title and extra set of keys, so we rescued Emma and took the boys with us so they could say goodbye to the truck.  Gabe fell asleep on the way over to the dealership and wasn't about to wake up, so he is sleeping on the tailgate in the photo, but Soren was a bundle of energy as we cleaned out the truck and took a few pictures.

So that's mostly what we've been up to lately.  Last night we went to visit our friends, the Hillers, who just had a new baby girl.  I thought the boys would be excited to see a new baby, but they just kind of checked her out for a few seconds and then went back to shooting guns and playing with Claire and Miles.  Claire and Miles are certainly thrilled to have a new baby sister in their house, so hopefully when we have little Brooke, Soren and Gabe will be a little more interested.  Hard to believe they start out so small.  In just 5 1/2 weeks, we'll have another little baby and my big boys will seem even bigger!

  1. It was tough giving up my dream car, the truck, but the minivan does drive quite nicely. It will be so much better for the family in many ways including long trips to Utah and back. I guess I am a family man more than a manly man at this point. lol
