This Two Year Old

Our baby has been two for a month and a half now.  I guess I could post about her birthday.  I was going to write about her two year checkup as well, but I forgot to bring home the paper with her stats on it from her checkup, and I keep forgetting to go back to the doctor to pick up an extra copy.  I thought I'd get over "pregnancy brain" when I was done with all the pregnancies.  I guess now it's just "mother of four brain".  Gabe thinks I forget things all the time.  He's probably right, but I can't remember.  Ha ha.

So let's write about our little Maddie!  She turned two on February 10th.  Here she is on her last day as a one year old...
For her birthday, we were going to eat at McDonald's (she loves "chicken and fries" and loves to play in playland with the other kids).  But there was a softball coaches meeting that Sean wanted to go to, so we opened presents and had Maddie blow out her candles on the cake before we left.  We dropped Sean off at the meeting so he could make an appearance, and couldn't find a McDonald's nearby, so we went to Chick-Fil-A instead.  Mormor and the kids and I ate and waited and waited for Sean to meet up with us.  The kids had fun playing all that time, but I didn't get any photos because Sean's phone was broken, and he took my phone with him.  The meeting lasted forever!  At about 10pm, the meeting finally ended so we came home ate some cake and finally went to bed.  It was a late night celebration!  Hard to believe she's two already.  Seems like we just brought her home from the hospital after being born.

She is such a cute little stinker.  I love to hear her giggle and talk.  She's learned quite a few words, but some of the things we hear most often are,
"Let me do it!" (She likes to put on her own shoes and clothes, and open wrappers).
"Brookie mean me!" (Whether or not Brooke really is picking on her, but most of the time she is).
"Again!!!" (After the end of a song she has enjoyed listening to or dancing to).
"I need my O-Pad!" (That would be an iPad, or a Leap Pad.  When we go for long car trips, we use the iPads and she seems to think she needs her own).
And her call to get her out of bed, usually in the wee hours of the morning..."Mom!  I need you!" or,  "Mooommmmy, where aaarre you?" We just heard that one again at 4:00 this morning as she stood in her crib wanting to get out.  I put her in our bed with us.  As soon as we were both lying down, she grabs my face and says, "I need my cup."  I told her she didn't, but she held my face again and said, "I need my cup" so I went and got her a sippy cup of water.  She sucked down some water and then snuggled up with the cup and fell back asleep in our bed.  What a stinker!

Maddie loves pizza, meatloaf, chicken nuggets, chocolate milk, fruit snacks, and just about anything with sugar.  Oh, and she also loves to eat bread and butter.  She'll eat a piece and then say "more bread butter!"  She has been a pretty good eater for the past year or so, but is starting to get into that picky eater stage.  That's not fun.  She and Brooke are most happy when wearing their pajamas.  Particularly the nightgowns they got for Christmas from Grandma and Grandpa, or their Halloween Skeleton pajamas from Mormor.  I guess that's better than the nearly naked stage they were going through for a while!

Watching Brooke at swimming lessons and wishing she were in the pool!

"Swimming" in her suit in the tub!
An interesting way to eat pizza!

Maddie has a little habit of twisting her hair.  Sometimes it gets into pretty big knots.  I've been able to untangle some of them, but one of them was so bad, Sean just cut it out with scissors!  She does it mostly when she's tired.  It's kind of cute to see her twisting her hair, but the knots make me laugh.  One morning she twisted a spoon into her hair.  That cracked me up!

The spoon!

We are happy to have this little girl in our family.  I love to hear her say, "Mom, snuggle me."  And she makes some funny and cute faces.  Even if she does draw on walls, floors, and herself, she's a sweet little caboose for the Jensen crew.  We look forward to the many adventures she'll lead us through in the future.

  1. Two year olds are pretty fun. I love when they start talking and you finally know what they are thinking. Those hair knot pictures were hilarious. You may be forgetful as a mom of four...but don't forget that you are a good mommy!

  2. This is so cute. My Andrew twisted his hair for a while. I think he got out of the habit when we buzzed his hair for the summer. Don't buzz her hair, though, haha.

  3. Her hair spoons kill me! What a cutie, and full of personality! Her catch phrases are awesome! Someday we will all hang out - 8 kids, what the heck!?
