It's hard to believe we're halfway through June already. Sometimes the days last so long and I think I'll be pregnant forever, but then I look back on each week and wonder where it went! I am trying to enjoy some time with the boys before I get busy with recovery from a C-section, as well as taking care of the feeding needs of a new baby. I wish I had more energy to do fun things with them, but we are lucky to have a yard with fun things to do, and I can still get in the pool with them, so swimming is still a good option. Occasionally we make it to the park, but with school out now, the parks are a lot more crowded and it's not as much fun anymore. Not for me, anyway!
We were swimming at our neighbor's house yesterday and Gabe kept wanting to jump in without his life jacket. I'm glad he's courageous and adventurous, but he kept heading for the deep end and I'm not in the kind of shape to be swimming across the pool, treading water, and helping this little jumper get out! I don't think the neighbors would appreciate me giving birth in their pool. And it's not really the birth method I would choose, so I finally made him put his life jacket back on so he could jump unassisted. Little stinker!
Soren is doing really well with the potty training lately, thank goodness, so he no longer needs to wear the swimming diapers when we swim. The other day he found a new use for them. Fortunately, it was a clean, dry diaper!
Last week Soren was invited to a birthday party for his friend, Spencer. Both boys used to go play with Spencer every Monday at his house, and then he would come to our house on Wednesdays, but now that it's the summer, we have ended that arrangement. Plus, Spencer's family, the Mitchells, will be moving to Denver this month. We will be sad to see them go. Anyway, Soren was invited to the party along with lots of other 3 and 4 year olds, but 2 year old Gabe wasn't on the list. Poor kid cried and cried when we dropped Soren off at Spencer's house and he had to stay in the car with me. I tried to calm Gabe down by saying we could go to the park or go get some ice cream or a popsicle, but nothing was working. We drove around the block to the park and I told him we could go get on the swings. When he actually saw the park, he calmed down and we were able to have a good time. Fortunately, the party was only an hour long, so the park kept his attention long enough to forget about missing out.
That evening we went out to a place called Steak 'N Shake for dinner. A friend told us they had great burgers there, so we thought we'd give it a try. It was ok, but we weren't overly impressed. Probably not a place we just HAVE to go back to, but it was a fun atmosphere and the kids meals came with hats and cardboard cars to entertain the boys. Gabe just wanted ice cream, so the hat and car didn't really entertain him, but Soren loved the hat. Sean put Gabe's hat on but that still didn't cheer Gabe up. He was a little grumpy until he got some food and milkshake in his belly. After the meal, he and Soren were happy to pose with their hats.
Sean had to go to Reno for Graduation on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Part of the trip was a golf outing with some of his coworkers. He's not a big fan of golf, so even though it was kind of fun to be in a more relaxed atmosphere, it still wasn't his favorite activity. Maybe he just was saying he didn't like it so I wouldn't be so jealous. I really enjoy golfing, but it's been quite a while since I've been on a course. If it weren't so darn expensive here in Vegas, it's probably something we would enjoy doing together if we had some free time to get better at it! Oh well. I was glad the baby didn't decide to come while he was out of town. We are glad he's back in town today! Last night while we were waiting for him to get back home, the boys rode their 4-wheelers out in the street. Gabe drove around in circles as he hasn't quite figured out the function of the handlebars, but Soren is getting pretty good at going where he wants. I'm glad because when we first got the 4-wheelers, Soren was afraid to ride. Nice to see him get a little courage! I'm glad we live in a quiet neighborhood with very little traffic!
